Some information about important upcoming events. We highly encourage our members and supporters to join us if they can!
Firstly, the first session of our AGM on Saturday 14th November is open for all to attend, even if you are not a Scottish CND member.
We will be hosting a panel of highly experienced campaigners for peace and disarmament to discuss northern Europe’s about-face on nuclear weapons, French efforts to spread their nuclear weapons around Europe and policies of vertical proliferation within European NATO.
Our expert panel will include Ulla Klötzer of World BEYOND War, Jean-Marie Collin of ICAN France and Sophie Bolt from UK CND.
A reminder that at our AGM, we will display the names of Scottish CND members we have lost, with thanks. We are inviting all supporters to inform us via scnd@banthebomb.org if they are aware of any Scottish CND members who have passed away this year. If you wish to provide a short note of reflection (around 50 words) this can be included as part of the AGM.
You can sign up for free to attend the open session of our AGM here. We encourage members and non-members alike to register. Only members will be able to vote on organisational matters in the afternoon session. There is still time for members to submit resolutions and nominations before the deadline on 17th October.
Secondly, Scottish CND invites all members and supporters to a special free webinar on the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty, which this year has its 30th anniversary. The webinar will take place at 7pm on Wednesday 28th of October.
We will be joined by expert in nuclear policy Dave Cullen, programme manager at BASIC, who will discuss the history of the Test Ban Treaty, why it has been so successful in preventing nuclear explosions, and whether its norms are eroding in light of recent international events.
Thirdly, we are pleased to be supporting the national tour of Stop the War leadership during their visit in Glasgow, on the evening of Thursday 29th October. Senior anti-war leaders like Andrew Feinstein will be speaking alongside Scottish and European trade union figures in a major rally against the war drive.
Register here to secure your place at this important event.
At a time of intense mobilisations against austerity and the war economy across Europe, there is no time to lose in building the movement against the war economy here in the UK.
Thanks for your continued support and we hope to see supporters at some of these upcoming events!
