Thanks to those who joined us outside parliament yesterday, as we sent our message that Scotland’s Spaceports should not contribute to the further militarisation of space.
This week we delivered letters to all constituency and regional MSPs of the Shetland Islands, where the Saxavord Spaceport is under development, the minister for Fair Work and Business and the leaders of each party represented in Holyrood, urging their commitment to the strictly peaceful uses of Spaceports in Scotland.
Today, we are calling on all our supporters and members to help us establish a brand new Scottish CND Youth Platform!
Are there young people in your life, whether family, friends of family, or acquaintances, worried about war, climate and nuclear weapons?
We know that these global factors cause distress and outrage amongst many young people in Scotland, but many feel like they do not have a say. These are exactly the voices we want to platform and amplify as part of our new Scottish CND youth project, which we plan to launch before the end of the year.
The activities of the youth platform will involve lobbying parliament, public advocacy initiatives, organising demonstrations and events, and creative media production highlighting the threat of nuclear weapons in Scotland.
As well as giving young people a core role in our campaign, the Scottish CND youth platform will provide them opportunities to upskill in advocacy, fundraising, events organisation, journalistic writing, digital communications, public speaking, international law and social justice campaigning.
That’s why we are asking our members and supporters to encourage any young people in their lives to contact scnd@banthebomb.org with their names and contact information, so they can be involved in this exciting new project!
At a time in which the Ministry of Defence is moving in on educational institutions, spending large sums of money to militarise education, it is essential that young people invested in peace-building feel there are alternative visions for Scotland’s future, other than dangerous and obsolete nuclear militarism.
Help us amplify the youth voice for disarmament in Scotland!
