Pat Kane address at SCND Annual General Meeting...
Isn’t it amazing you can read these words, just moments after I write them?
From hot showers to instant messages, modern technology is astounding.
But as Pat Kane (Scottish artist and political writer) communicated at our AGM, there is a sinister side to technology. A drone can be used for the magnificent artistry of landscape videography. But the same technology is also used to destroy.
Though many live lives of near-utopian modernity, we are all overshadowed with the threat of nuclear annihilation.
It’s no surprise that in the face of this incongruous horror, many of us turn to the arts express it.
To create is the ultimate rebellion against the threat of total destruction.
The arts have a duty to create cosmic cultures of peace.

For our part, we will be intertwining activism and the arts with an uplifting peace poetry event.
We’re excited to announce that tickets are now available for this (fully in-person) peace poetry Burns fundraiser.
⏰Saturday 25th January at 3pm
📍The Quaker Meeting House, 38 Elmbank Crescent, Glasgow
Amidst a world bent on war, this is a chance to enjoy a space of peace and creativity. We also still have space on our poem list, so please email us with nominations on themes of Scotland and/or peace within the next week or so.
In other news, the wonderful Kat Knak-Watt is moving on from Scottish CND, to be replaced by Samuel Rafanell-Williams in the communications role. Thanks to Kat for her years working to advance the cause of peace and disarmament – we wish her well in her future endeavours!
