Views on nuclear weapons:

Replied to letter in November 2006 and said:

"I have opposed and continue to oppose the replacement of the Trident nuclear weapons system.  I do not see how we can ask other countries not to build nuclear weapons if we proceed to create a new nuclear deterrent.

We have to make progress in reducing the world nuclear capability and to do that Britain must continue to show willing and reduce nuclear warheads with a view to an eventual eradication of all nuclear weapons."
