Israel has nuclear forces similar in size to Britain, with an estimated 200 weapons of a number of kinds, probably including nuclear armed cruise missiles on submarines as well as land based missiles and bombs for aircraft. The presence of nuclear weapons in this volatile area of the Middle East is a major cause for concern.

The British government went to war on the false assumption that there were Weapons of Mass Destruction in Iraq. However with regard to Israel, which is widely known to have the bomb, the official line is not to ask Israel if it has nuclear weapons.
