 The
classic CND logo is a circle with one vertical diameter and two
pendent radii (not to be confused with the Mercedes-Benz logo of
three equidistant radii!). This was devised for the first Aldermaston
demo in 1958, by the artist Gerard Holtom. He used a combination
of the semaphore letters for “N” and “D”
- nuclear disarmament - surrounded by a circle representing the
world. It has since become recognized worldwide as a symbol for
peace generally.
