CND is the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament. Scottish CND works with British CND and others in the wider peace movement to rid Britain and the world of all nuclear weapons. We are opposed to any nation developing or deploying nuclear weapons.

The means and methods whereby a state may defend itself are not unlimited. In war rape, torture, or the execution of prisoners of war - for example - are recognized as war crimes. The willful killing of civilians is always a major war crime.

Atomic, Biological, and Chemical (ABC) weapons are weapons of indiscriminate killing. They are incapable of being used in such a way as to respect the distinction between military targets and the civilian population. They are classified as Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) and as such are immoral and illegal. They contravene international humanitarian law which upholds the principle that the lives of innocent civilians are sacrosanct in war as in peace. The International Court of Justice in the Hague has ruled that nuclear weapons are illegal in any conceivable circumstances.
