Replied to survey in 2011:

Question 1. The Scottish Parliament should continue to call on the UK government not to go ahead with the current proposal to replace Trident.
- Yes

Question 2. The Scottish Parliament should call on the UK government to cease the deployment of Trident
- Yes

Question 3. The Scottish Parliament should support a Nuclear Weapons Convention (a global ban on nuclear weapons).
- Yes

Question 4. Are you for or against the construction of new nuclear power stations in Scotland ?
- Against

"Whilst I do not support unilateral disarmament, I do believe that the UK should be far more active in nuclear arms reductions negotiations with the rest of the world.

" With regard to nuclear power, I do support research into "fast" nuclear power stations that use most of their fuel, leaving substantially less waste, waste which poses less of long term danger to the environment, are inherently safer by design and significantly reduce the risk of proliferation. However I am conscious that these sorts of power stations will not be available until 2040 at the very earliest and will not contribute towards tackling global warming.

"I am strongly opposed to the renewal of Trident, and strongly opposed to the building any new nuclear power stations of existing commercial designs.

"I am strongly opposed to the UK developing any new nuclear weapons systems"

Replied to a letter from Scotland's for Peace in 2010 saying that he would vote against the replacement of Trident -

" The Liberal Democrats are firmly committed to voting against any like-for-like replacement for Trident.  We hold this position not just because of the current economic situation, but also because Trident does not serve the realities of the military threats and responsibilities we currently face.

"In particular, given the recent announcement of a new nuclear arms reduction treaty between Russia and the US, a commitment to Trident is seriously out of touch with the current political reality.

"I personally would vote against funding any new nuclear weapons systems."
