Replied to a letter from Scotland's for Peace saying that she would vote against the replacement of Trident
"(1) The money to be spent on Trident could be invested in our economy increasing, for example green jobs and better environmental positive housing.
(2) To use Trident would be morally wrong
(3) To have it with no intention of using it is a waste of money
(4) We need to work harder for a peaceful world."
In a survey of candidates in the Glasgow North East byelection in November 2009 Eileen Baxendale said that she would vote for the cancellation of the programeme to replace Trident and that she would vote for the decommissioning of the Trident system.
In a statement she said:
“I support both proposals in your survey and hold that we should move towards nuclear disarmament. In addition I would say the the UK should be taking the lead in nuclear disarmament, not lagging behind. I think we are not reaching our nuclear non-proliferation treaty targets. The NATO countries have enough nuclear weapons to blow up the world several times. Also money spend on nuclear weapons could be spent on other services. I look forward to meeting with CND after the election.”
