Replied to survey in March 2011: Question 1. The Scottish Parliament should continue to call on the UK government not to go ahead with the current proposal to replace Trident. Question 2. The Scottish Parliament should call on the UK government to cease the deployment of Trident Question 3. The Scottish Parliament should support a Nuclear Weapons Convention (a global ban on nuclear weapons). Question 4. Are you for or against the construction of new nuclear power stations in Scotland ? "Trident is a Cold War weapon which is no longer fit for purpose. There are greater priorities where £20 billion can be spent". "I oppose the construction of nuclear power stations in Scotland"
Replied to a letter from Scotland's for Peace in the 2010 election saying that he would vote against the replacement of Trident "This is a Cold War weapon of limited relevance in the world of terrorism. The £100 billion cost will not keep up safe nor will it eliminate the threat of terrorism. This huge sum of money would be better used elsewhere." |
