Question 1. The Scottish Parliament should continue to call on the UK government not to go ahead with the current proposal to replace Trident.
- Yes
Question 2. The Scottish Parliament should call on the UK government to cease the deployment of Trident
- Yes
Question 3. The Scottish Parliament should support a Nuclear Weapons Convention (a global ban on nuclear weapons).
- Yes
Question 4. Are you for or against the construction of new nuclear power stations in Scotland ?
- Against
"The Scottish Green Party has made the construction of new nuclear a "Red Line" issue - we will under no circumstances enter into any coalition agreement or support any government that wishes to introduce new nuclear plants (or weapons). We will phase out all existing nuclear power stations within the shortest practicable time-scale and end the myth that nuclear power is low-carbon. Activities such as the mining of uranium ore and its transportation, its subsequent enrichment to produce fuel, the disposal of waste, and the utilisation of considerable amounts of steel and concrete in the construction of the plants themselves mean that nuclear power plants indirectly emit significant levels of CO2 and other greenhouse gases.
"The possession of nuclear weapons by Britain contributes nothing to our security and we believe that the current commitment to disarm if the other nuclear powers do the same should be changed to one of unilateral nuclear disarmament. We will get rid of the current Trident armed nuclear submarines. The Scottish Green Party will work towards outlawing the movement of Nuclear warheads on Scottish roads both through proposing legislation in the Scottish Parliament and through supporting peaceful direct action to block the nuclear convoys travelling on our roads from Burghfield in Berkshire to Coulport near Faslane."
