Take the Target Off Our Back! Scottish CND Launches New Campaign in Response to Pro-nuclear Political Climate

Illustration for new Scottish CND Campaign "Take the Target off Our Back". From left to right, illustrations of an NHS nurse, a child, and a climate activist holding a plant are pictured. Each one has a dartboard tied to their back, being targeted by nuclear weapons.

Imagine a world where the existential threat of nuclear war is unopposed.

Imagine a world without protest.

Imagine a world without justice seekers.

Imagine a world where we accept war.

Imagine a world where we shrug at the destruction of our environment.

We don’t live in that world.
Millions of people across the planet are working for an alternative.

In Scotland we have a special role to play. We can build a future where, as a nation, we uphold the United Nations Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons.

An independent Scotland would require the disarmament of the nuclear weapon system at Faslane and Coulport.

Without these bases, there would be nowhere for the nuclear weapons to go. The target would be off our back – and the UK’s nuclear weapon system dismantled.

In the context of the 2024 general election we have launched a new campaign to address the cost of nuclear weapons.

Our message is Take the Target Off Our Back.

Nuclear weapons don’t protect us. They make us a target.

Not only that, billions are spent on nuclear weapons while healthcare services, education, and our environment suffers.

WILL YOU ACT?

Scotland must continue to show its support for the United Nations Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, now legally binding in 70 of its members states, and supported by 130. At present 44 out of 57 Scottish MPs have signed the International Pledge for every country to join the Treaty.

WHAT YOU CAN DO:

Ask all your candidates directly if they will sign this pledge. Their position is a reality check on whether they will work for a sustainable fair world that does not depend on illegal and indiscriminate disregard for life and the planet which sustains it. Let us know by emailing scnd@banthebomb.org

UK General Election Deadlines are displayed, with an encouragement to only vote for candidates who do not support nuclear weapons
