45. Craigowl Hill, Dundee. (NO 377 400) 
The
British Telecom microwave relay station on top of Craigowl Hill provided intelligence-gathering
facilities for the US National Security Agency from 1963 onwards and may still
do. The activities of the NSA at Craigowl were secret until 1980 and despite a
public outcry were not denied. Craigowl was linked to the NSA's electronic monitoring
station at Menwith Hill in Yorkshire. |
