Three short films presenting approaches to promoting peace and non-violence in the world with examples of peace activists and women challenging injustices.
1) CND March to Aldermaston
Director: The Film and TV Committee for Nuclear Disarmament (1958)
The first London to Aldermaston march was on 4-7 April 1958,shortly after the launch of CND. People marched for four days from Trafalgar Square, London, to the Atomic Weapons Research Establishment close to Aldermaston in Berkshire, England, to demonstrate their opposition to nuclear weapons. This film records the people who took part and gives us an opportunity to remember the origins of the peace movement in the UK.
2) Deadly Cargo Director: Camcorder Guerillas (2008)
Fully assembled nuclear weapons are regularly transported in secret convoys on ordinary roads, day and night, right across Britain. How close do they come to you? Find out the chilling truth about these lethal convoys, how they are tracked by people in the Nukewatch network and how you can help stop them.
3) Not for Sale
Director: Marie Vermeiren (2006)
The film challenges the traditional views and myths about sexual exploitation of women's bodies. Women demand governmental action in order to fight all forms of violence against women, including trafficking.
Total running time: 70 minutes.
The films will be introduced by Martha Wardrop. There will be time for discussion regarding the peace movement and current campaigns following the films.
