Helensburgh CND invited other Scottish CND groups to Faslane to take a slot in the Faslane 365 rota on 22 July. A lively crowd from from Ayrshire, Renfrewshire, Stirling, Edinburgh and Helensburgh gathered at the Faslane North Gate for a picnic in the sunshine. It was a good opportunity for active CND groups to chat informally and compare notes on what they had planned for Hiroshima day.
On Aug 4th we had out street stall out at the pierhead and sold second hand books to raise funds as well as again making CND visible in the town nearest to Faslane.
Hiroshima day was marked by a candlefloating ceremony at Helensburgh pier. Around 30 people gathered for a moving ceremony before candles were floated on the Clyde. Jackie Baillie MSP and Graham MacCormick from the SNP made contributions. Helensburgh CND had mailed all CND members in the area and numbers were also swelled by Faslane Peace Camp and the Trident Ploughshares Camp as well as a very helpful plug on Radio Scotland Newsdrive in an interview with Trident Ploughshares. One family dropped everything and drove from Ayrshire to be there on hearing it.
