Scottish CND supports YES campaign

The Scottish Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, after a lively debate at its annual conference on Saturday 17 November, agreed to support the YES campaign. The resolution which was adopted says,

“Conference urges all members to give priority to the campaign for a 'YES vote' in the 2014 Independence Referendum which will give the Scottish Government a mandate to negotiate a written constitution with a clause on No Nuclear Weapons in Scotland.

“Conference resolves that SCND affiliates to and promotes the “Yes” Campaign as the most immediate and effective way of getting rid of Trident.”

Message from Scottish CND chair:

I thought it would be helpful to provide some background to an  important discussion which took place at  the Scottish CND AGM on Saturday November 17th. At the AGM  it was agreed to support the Yes Campaign . The resolution which was passed after a lively debate says:

"Conference urges all members to give priority to the campaign for a YES vote in the 2014 Independence Referendum which will give the Scottish Government a mandate to negotiate a written constitution with a clause of No Nuclear Weapons in Scotland.
"Conference resolves that SCND affiliates to and promotes the Yes Campaign as the most immediate and effective way of getting rid of Trident."
It is recognised by the Scottish CND Executive that we have members and affiliates who have reasons for not supporting independence on other issues. It is also recognised that some members of Scottish CND will be conscientiously working for the Better Together campaign while retaining their commitment to disarmament.

Yours in Peace
Arthur West
Chair of Scottish CND
