Please leave a gift to Scottish CND in your Will
You can make a huge difference to the future of Scottish nuclear disarmament by leaving a gift in your will to Scottish CND. We rely on donations to continue our vital work abolishing nuclear weapons from Scottish soil and waters as a step forward to global elimination.
We may not all live to see the day that nuclear weapons are finally banned, but by leaving a legacy to Scottish CND it is possible to help ensure that future generations are free from the nuclear threat.
Scottish CND has only been able to campaign effectively over recent years because of the additional income we received from legacies. You don’t need to leave a lot of money to make a difference. Every gift, small or large, helps us.
Having an up to date Will is important because it is the only way to ensure that your estate is distributed according to your wishes; it guarantees your loved ones and the causes you believe in receive what you intended for them.
When the time is right to write your Will, please remember Scottish CND.
To make a will we advise that you make an appointment with your solicitor and let them guide you through the process. In most cases this will be straightforward.
There are three types of bequest that can be left to Scottish CND:
(1) A residual legacy. This is a percentage or fraction of your estate. Leaving a bequest in this way tends to be inflation proof.
(2) A pecuniary legacy. This is a specific amount of money.
(3) A bequest of property. This is a specific gift of possessions, land or property.
The wording of the bequest should say “Scottish Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament” and give our address, “77 Southpark Avenue, Glasgow, G12 8LE”.
If you have an existing will and wish to add a bequest to Scottish CND this can be done as a codicil (a change to a will). Adding a codicil can be simple, but it is still best to speak to a solicitor.
Scottish CND is a campaigning organisation and not a registered charity. This means your bequest will not be tax exempt. It is possible to make a bequest to the Nuclear Education Trust which has funded education work carried out by CND and Scottish CND. However bequests to this Trust can only be used for education work, which is a small part of our overall work. Please contact us if you would like further information on this issue.
