The forces of nature have defeated plans by the Ministry of Defence to sail the latest Trident submarine to Scotland. HMS Vengeance was commissioned on 27th November by the wife of NATO chief Lord George Robertson. On Sunday 5th December the vessel was moved within Barrow from Devonshire Dock to Ramsden Dock. It had been due to sail on Monday morning - but the wind and the waves prevented the submarine from sailing.
Yet again today (Tuesday) storm force winds have kept the nuclear vessel inside Barrow. Similar conditions are forecast for Wednesday and Thursday, so it might be Friday before the submarine leaves. It is expected to arrive at Faslane in Scotland one day later.
There was a fire onboard Vengeance on Wednesday 1st December.
