"This party notes the decision of Sheriff Gimblett in Greenock Sheriff Court in which she declared the Trident nuclear weapon system illegal.
This party therefore and in agreement with the policy of both the Scottish Conference of the Labour Party and the S.T.U.C., calls on the Government to end the deployment of the Trident nuclear weapons system forthwith, to scrap the submarines, to dismantle and scrap the rockets and warheads and to live up to its obligations under Article VI of the Non Proliferation Treaty.
This party notes that this will alter patterns of employment in the Defence Industries at various sites and calls on the Government to take immediate measures to ensure comparable and sufficient alternative employment at these vulnerable sites. However this party also notes that there will be substantial employment opportunities locally in the dismantling and removal of Trident related facilities at Coulport and Faslane."
