Ploughshares three trial week 3

The trial is now in its third week and is expected to continue into a fourth week

The court is on holiday on Monday 11th October

Angie Zelter is expected to be cross-examined on Tuesday 12th October
Before this the Chief Executive has been ordained by the Sheriff to appear in front of the court to explain the board's decision not to grant legal aid to cover the expenses on Judge Panzer's appearance as a defence witness. This is only the second time in Scottish legal history that this has been done.

Judge Ulf Panzer will appear as a defence witness on Wednesday 13th October
Along with other judges and prosecutors he took part in a sit down blockade outside a nuclear weapons base in Germany and was arrested. He is a serving judge with powers slightly greater than those of a Sheriff in Scotland

Professor Paul Rogers from Bradford School of Peace Studies will appear as a defence witness on Friday 15th October

Two of the defendants: Ulla Roder and Ellen Moxley have still to give their evidence. Ulla may be heard on Tuesday or Thursday. Ellen is expected to be heard towards the end of the case.

Three other expert witnesses will be called by the defence:
Professor Jack Boag of Pugwash on the effects of nuclear weapons
Rebecca Johnston of ACRONYM in Geneva on international treaties
John Ainslie of Scottish CND on Britain's Trident programme.

Trident Ploughshares 2000 have set up an office in Greenock which can be contacted on 01475 785893

If possible please go to the court any day this week or at the start of next week to show your support. Greenock Sheriff Court is in Nelson Street, close to the town centre and near Greenock West Train station.
