SCOTTISH DEMONSTRATION AGAINST NATO BOMBING

People opposed to NATO's bombing campaign will be gathering at a demonstration which will take place at George Square, Glasgow at 5 pm on Wednesday 31st March. This will be supported by the United Nations Association (Glasgow), Justice and Peace Scotland, Scottish CND, the Scottish Socialist Party and others opposed to the bombing.

"NATO's contribution to the disaster in Kosovo is like pouring petrol onto a bonfire. Dropping bombs from a great height is only adding to the chaos and mayhem in the former Yugoslavia. Robin Cook should be looking for realistic ways to relieve the humanitarian crisis, rather than making it worse.

We condemn the action as being irresponsible with potentially catastrophic consequences and we call for the United Nations and OSCE to take the lead in finding a resolution to the problems of the area"

said Brian Quail, Joint Secretary, Scottish CND.

In a formal broadcast on 29 March Alex Salmond MP, leader of the Scottish National Party described the bombing as "unpardonable folly". He said:

"If we are to sanction intervention in Serbia then the policy must be capable of achieving two things. It must be capable of weakening Milosevic, and helping Kosovo. A bombing campaign will achieve neither. Indeed the chances are that it will make both worse."
