At 8 am on Wednesday 19th August workers were prevented from entering the Faslane nuclear base by an early music concert which was held at the North Gate. Three members of Venus Birds set up their instruments in the middle of the roadway and gave a recital while supporters sat down to listen to them. The main entrance was closed for 2 hours and traffic had to be diverted to another gate.
While the concert was going on there were several arrests as people tried to cut through the fence both at the North Gate and elsewhere. Those arrested included Fredrik Ivarsson, a Swedish pastor, and 2 other members of his group.
The second photograph shows the Police when the finally moved in to clear the North Gate. They arrested those who were still sitting down, including one of the musicians.
