Faslane Peace Camp and Scottish CND expressed their concern following an announcement today that Argyll and Bute Council would be lodging an appeal against the ruling given by Dumbarton Court on the eviction of the Camp.
On 6th April Sheriff Simon Fraser ruled that the Council's moves to evict the Peace Camp were incompetent, because the eviction notice refered to the Camp as an "unincorporated body". The Sheriff said that this term could only be used if they were carrying on some form of business, which they were not. Argyll and Bute Council are now trying to reverse the Court's decision.
Rab Fulton of Faslane Peace Camp said:
"It is an insult to the residents of Argyll and Bute that the Council are continuing to harass the Peace Campers using taxpayers' money, without ever explaining why they are doing this."
Brian Quail, Joint Secretary, Scottish Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament added:
"We deplore the continued attempts by Argyll and Bute Council to evict Faslane Peace Camp. If the Council are really concerned about the appearance of the area between Garelochhead and Helensburgh then they should do something about Faslane nuclear base which is the biggest eyesore in the whole of Scotland."
