A report from the Ministry of Defence has revealed that thousands of spare parts for the Trident system have gone missing. Apparently the parts left the United States but went missing either in transit to Faslane, or at the nuclear base.
Scottish CND are concerned that these parts are almost certainly related to the missile system. The missiles and related equipment is all purchased from the US.
The Daily Record on Monday 6th October claimed that workers in Faslane base say that large quantities of material have been stolen from the base. Sections of insulated piping have been sneaked out of the base in cars and sold to a scrap merchant. More worrying computer chips and components have been smuggled out of the base. A fault in one computer could prove catastrophic on a nuclear powered and nuclear armed submarine.
