As Faslane Peace Camp prepares to celebrate its 15th birthday, the campers have been given formal notice to quit the site, outside the Trident submarine base. Four representatives of Argyll and Bute Council arrived at the Camp on Monday 9th June and posted notices on all the caravans, sheds, and even on the toilet, telling them that they have to leave.
The notice issued to the camp reads as follows:
NOTICE TO THE OCCUPIERS OF THE SITE AT A814
Notice is hereby given by Argyll and Bute Council, Kilmory, Lochgilphead, the statutory successors to Strathclyde Regional Council
in respect of the landlord’s rights in terms of a written lease a copy of which is appended hereto, that, in the terms of clause 3 thereof,
the lease is to be terminated on 28th July 1997 on or by which date you are required to remove yourself your family, goods and general
effects from the site, notice is also given that any persons who are not tenants do not have permission of the landlords to remain on the site.
They are required forthwith to remove themselves, their family, goods and general effects from the site. In the event of the site not being
vacated as required in terms of the notice legal action will be resorted to without further notification.
