September 11th Peace Rally in Glasgow

Representatives of several major faiths joined the father of the House of Commons in a peace rally held to commemorate all the victims of terrorism and war.

The rally was chaired by Isobel Lindsay. The speakers were veteran MP Tam Dalyell, Baillie Irene Graham(representing the Lord Provost of Glasgow, Rev Alan McDonald representing the Moderator of the Church of Scotland, Rabbi Peter Tobias of the Glasgow New Synagogue, Imam Habib Rehman Rauf of Glasgow Central Mosque, Tim Duffy of the Justice and Peace Commission of the Roman Catholic Church, Palestinian poet Ghazi Hussein and Brian Quail of the Scottish Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament. New Yorker Jeanne Brady read out a statement from Peaceful Tommorrows who are a group of relatives of victims of September 11th who are opposed to further military action in response to the attacks on New York and Washington.

Two singers from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama sang a Gaelic song.
