Tommy Sheridan MSP faces prison
A member of the Scottish Parliament is facing a prison term as a result of taking part in a protest at the Faslane nuclear base in February this year. The Scottish Socialist Party MSP Tommy Sheridan has refused to pay a fine he was given for taking part in a sit down protest at the gate of Faslane.
At the time of his trial the JP made it clear that if the £250 fine was not paid within 28 days then he would be sent to prison for 14 days. The time for the fine to be paid has now expired.
Mr Sheridan has encouraged people to attend the next major demonstration against Trident - the Big Blockade - which will take place on 12 February 2001. This event is being organised jointly by Scottish CND and Trident Ploughshares.
