MSP refuses to pay fine after Trident protest
Tommy Sheridan MSP appeared in Helenburgh Court on 14 November charged in connection with a mass blockade of the Faslane nuclear base in February. Mr Sheridan, leader of the Scottish Socialist Party, was amongst 185 people arrested at the demonstration.
He argued in court that Trident was illegal. However he was given a £250 fine. Mr Sheridan made it clear to the JP that he would not pay any fine. He was then told that he would be given 28 days to pay, failing which he would be sent to prison for 14 days.
Mr Sheridan is a vice convener of the cross party group on nuclear disarmament at the Scottish Parliament.
