Safety of nuclear submarines considered by European Commission
The Spanish newspaper El Pais reported on 10 November that the European Commission would be looking into aspects of the situation surrounding the safety of the nuclear submarine HMS Tireless which has been in Gibraltar since it suffered a nuclear accident in May.
The paper says that in response to a question from a Spanish MEP it has transpired that the Commission intends to approach the UK government asking for clarification about measures to protect the public in the event of a nuclear accident on HMS Tireless in Gibraltar.
There will also be a move on Tuesday 14 November to raise the issue in the European Parliament in an emergency motion from the Socialist group.
